The Summit Police Department is pleased to announce that justice has been served in the case of Johnny Portalatin's murder on August 12, 2020.
On that day, our officers responded to the 6000 block of 76th Avenue for a report of shots fired and a person down. Upon arrival, they found Portalatin with apparent gunshot injuries. Our officers immediately provided care until Summit Paramedics arrived and took over. Unfortunately, Portalatin succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Our detectives, along with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, worked tirelessly to investigate the matter. Their diligent efforts led to the identification of Ricardo Infante, 33, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, as a suspect. Infante was taken into custody and charged with Murder.
After a thorough trial, Infante was found guilty in a court of law. On June 16, 2026, he was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment and is to serve 100% of the sentence due to a gun enhancement on the charge.
We hope this outcome brings some sense of closure to the Portalatin family and our community. We remain committed to keeping our streets safe and ensuring that those who commit heinous crimes are held accountable.
Thank you to our dedicated officers, detectives, and partners for their hard work and perseverance in bringing justice to our community.
