Charleston County, S.C. — On June 7, 2026, at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the Circle K located at 8700 Rivers Avenue North Charleston in reference to a reported shooting in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Personnel with Charleston County EMS rendered emergency medical aid at the scene before transporting the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a physical altercation occurred earlier at K.C. Mulligan’s Bar, located at 8410 Rivers Avenue. The individuals involved subsequently left the location and separated. Investigators have determined that one of the individuals later went to the Circle K, where the second individual arrived a short time later. During a subsequent confrontation, an apparent third party who was not involved in the original altercation discharged a firearm, striking one individual.
During the initial stages of the investigation, it was determined that the individual who fired the shots is a former officer with the North Charleston Police Department. In the interest of maintaining transparency and ensuring an impartial investigation, the North Charleston Police Department requested that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) assume responsibility for the case.
SLED has accepted the investigation and has deployed investigators and crime scene personnel to process the scene and conduct all follow-up investigative efforts. Any future updates regarding this incident will be provided by SLED.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No additional information is available for release at this time.
