Please join the North Charleston Police Department in congratulating Pfc. Juan Estrada, recipient of the Life Saving Award for January 2026.

On January 1, while patrolling near Rivers Avenue and Hawthorne Drive, Pfc. Estrada came upon a serious collision involving a motorcycle carrying two riders. He immediately notified dispatch and began assessing the situation. Upon locating one of the riders in the roadway with a severe leg injury, he quickly retrieved his tourniquet and applied it to control significant bleeding.

While rendering critical aid, Pfc. Estrada maintained clear communication with dispatch, provided updates on the rider’s condition, coordinated with responding EMS personnel, and directed additional officers to secure the scene.

His decisive actions, calm demeanor, and quick thinking during a chaotic and traumatic incident quite possibly saved a life.
