Update:
On July 8th, the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) terminated the employment of one police officer, Seth Worrell, due to violations of department policy related to this incident. This decision was made after a comprehensive internal and external investigation, and in accordance with department protocols.
Additionally, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has informed the department that they are pursuing charges against former Officer Worrell related to this incident. Any inquiries regarding the external investigation should be directed to SLED.
The second officer initially placed on administrative leave has been reinstated to full duty, as they were found to be in compliance with department standards.
The department reaffirms, to the communities it serves, its dedication to maintaining the highest levels of conduct and accountability.
Original Public Release:
On June 18th, 2026, the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) investigated the tragic death of an infant in the 2200 block of Eleanor Drive in North Charleston, SC. During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that officers had previously responded to this residence. In light of these findings, the NCPD has requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
The two officers who had previously responded to the residence have been placed on administrative leave. NCPD is committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and accountability. We have requested SLED’s assistance due to concerns about the initial investigation and how it conforms with our department policy. This request process has just started and additional information will be unavailable until the process is complete.
We are dedicated to ensuring a transparent and comprehensive review of this matter, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we work to uncover all details.
