The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) is deeply saddened to report the loss of K9 Joker, who passed away today surrounded by his handler, Cpl. Reid and the rest of the K9 Unit. We extend our condolences to Corporal Reid and his family during this challenging period, and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

K-9 Joker was diagnosed in 2025 with melanoma cancer where a tumor was removed, treatment was completed, and scans showed no more signs of cancer.
This past week, we learned that the cancer had returned aggressively and was quickly spreading. Unfortunately, this led to a diagnosis of it becoming terminal and untreatable.
K-9 Joker’s story starts on December 5, 2019 where he was born in Hungary. He started his career with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) on February 24, 2021. Joker was paired with his handler Cpl. Braden Reid that same day where their bond began. Over the last 5 years working together, Joker has seized over 50 lbs. of Marijuana, 2 kilos of Fentanyl, 2 kilos of Cocaine, and 3 lbs. of Methamphetamine. K-9 Joker has also helped take over 30 illegal firearms off the streets and has located and apprehended 5 violent suspects.
K-9 Joker and Cpl. Reid was recently recognized by Police Chief Camacho for locating and apprehending 2 homicide suspects minutes after committing the crime.
K-9 Joker will spend the remaining months he has left with his handler Cpl. Braden Reid and his family. He will be wrapped in love and support from his family and friends.🥹💙
