Officers with the NCPD K-9 Unit were honored today with Chief Camacho’s prestigious Coin of Excellence in recognition of their outstanding service and dedication.
Major Andrew Glover, who assumed leadership of the K-9 Unit one year ago, praised the officers for their exceptional work, telling them, “You knocked it out of the park.” Major Glover recognized each officer individually for their contributions.
- Pfc. Perry was thanked for assisting Major Glover’s wife following his injury in an accident. Major Glover highlighted Pfc. Perry’s empathy, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
- Pfc. Degnan was commended for successfully training K-9s that were considered difficult to train. The dogs were going to be dismissed. However Pfc. Degnan took it upon himself to do the extra training.
- Pfc. Long and his K-9 were congratulated for arresting a forgery and fraud suspect wanted by federal authorities.
- Pfc. Estrada was recognized for saving a life at an accident scene by applying a tourniquet to a critically injured victim.
- Pfc. Schuessler was honored for deploying his K-9 to arrest a Williamsburg County bank robbery suspect.
- Corporal Reid was commended for deploying his K-9 to locate and apprehend two homicide suspects.
- Pfc. Davis was recognized for deploying his K-9 to apprehend a suspect with outstanding warrants.
- Sgt. Akins was commended for assisting in the successful location of a missing person.
Deputy Chief Rick Keys told the group he was proud of their service and dedication. Chief Camacho then proudly presented each officer with a Coin of Excellence.
