The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) is proud to join the community in celebrating Juneteenth, a significant day in American history that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the emancipation of all slaves in the South, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. This historic event marked a major milestone in the fight for freedom for African Americans.
Today, Juneteenth is celebrated across the country as a day of liberation, freedom, and unity. NCPD recognizes the importance of this day and its significance in our community.
We are committed to building strong relationships with our community. We believe that by working together, we can create a safer and more just society for all.
Join us in celebrating Juneteenth and honoring the rich history and culture of our community. Let us continue to strive for a brighter future, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
