On this past Saturday, Officers responded to Northwoods Mall following reports of a shooting near the food court. Upon arrival, they ensured the safety of all patrons by securing the area and searching for anyone who might have been injured. Shortly after their arrival, they were advised that a victim had arrived at a local hospital with injuries that were non-life-threatening.
It was quickly determined that the incident did not occur inside the mall, but just outside the food court in the parking lot. The investigation has successfully identified both the victim and a potential suspect. Preliminary information indicates that the two individuals were previously involved in an altercation approximately two years ago while in high school. Both individuals are no longer students. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding their unexpected encounter at the mall, but it does appear to be coincidental.
The department is working closely with mall management and security staff to ensure a safe environment for all shoppers and employees. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
