This morning, at approximately 10:00 a.m., North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Rivers Ave & NAD Rd for a two-vehicle collision. Preliminary findings indicate that a vehicle traveling eastbound out of Goose Creek lost control, veered into the westbound lanes, and collided with a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). The collision caused the CMV to leak a very large amount diesel fuel into the surrounding area. One occupant from the vehicles involved was pronounced deceased at the collision scene.
The NCPD Traffic Unit and the Charleston County Coroner's Office are leading the collision investigation. The SC State Transport Police responded to assist with our investigation, due to the involvement of a CMV. The SC Department of Environmental Services and the SCDOT responded for the diesel spill cleanup. Thank you to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office for their deputies assisting with traffic detours.
