Today, the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) responded to a distress call at the Aviation Avenue overpass above I-26W, where an individual had reportedly jumped from the bridge. Upon arrival, officers and emergency responders found the person who had leaped onto the highway, tragically succumbing to fatal injuries after being hit by multiple vehicles. The Interstate was temporarily shut down for the initial investigation, but has since been fully reopened to traffic.

The NCPD and the Charleston County Coroner's Office are conducting an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the SC Highway Patrol and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office provided support by assisting with traffic rerouting.
