In recent weeks, the North Charleston Police Department has seized three firearms from two different schools. Due to this unusual occurrence, we want to assure the community that NCPD remains committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment in our schools.
At this time, the incidents appear to be isolated events. During the investigations, School Resource Officers determined that no threats were made to harm any students or staff at the schools involved.
Our School Resource Officer Unit will be working closely with district security in the coming days to determine appropriate next steps.
In the meantime, we want to remind students and families that possessing a firearm on school property, including school buses, is a felony and will result in arrest.
