The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) officers with Day Shift Team 2 arrested two brothers Thursday in connection with a series of air conditioner thefts from unfinished apartment complexes.
Shortly after 8 a.m., officers responded to a reported theft at 2949 Ingleside Boulevard that had occurred overnight. The complainant told officers the suspects worked at the construction site and were still present when police arrived. Surveillance video was provided, and the complainant was able to positively identify the suspects.
The suspects were identified as 33-year-old Juan Molina Jimenez and 26-year-old Gerson Molina Jimenez, both of Charlotte. Officers detained both men at the scene.
According to the victim, the suspects allegedly stole air handlers from the construction site after the work shift ended. Air handlers are devices that circulate warm or cool air throughout a home. The suspects reportedly loaded the stolen equipment into a van before leaving the site.
Investigators later determined the incident was connected to several other thefts at the same location and at a second construction site. On February 4, a complainant reported that three roofers entered an apartment under construction and stole three air conditioning units, placing them into a work van. On January 30, surveillance footage showed three men stealing air conditioners and air handlers from new apartments on Weber Boulevard at Cypress Lakes.
Investigators plan to charge the brothers with grand larceny. Both were transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
