The North Charleston Police Department's (NCPD) Traffic Unit is investigating a weekend double fatality collision, that occurred on I-526W on the downslope of the Don Holt Bridge.

According to the preliminary investigation, early Sunday morning at approximately 2:52 am, a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the westbound lanes collided head-on with another vehicle. A third vehicle then crashed into the initial collision site. Unfortunately, the drivers of the wrong-way vehicle and the first struck vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the third vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The crash resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes at Clements Ferry, as well as a temporary closure of eastbound lanes near the scene. The Charleston Police Department assisted with the lane closures.
