On Tuesday, North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) patrol officers arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill a security guard and an officer at the North Charleston Lodge on Ashley Phosphate Road.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in progress and found the security guard had detained the suspect. The concerned caller into dispatch reported the guard was in a "bad spot" and had been assaulted by the suspect, who was also threatening to choke people.

Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect, identified as James DeAngelo White of North Charleston, being taken into custody by security. White, who was not a guest at the motel, had allegedly told the security guard he would shoot him after being told to leave the property. The guard attempted to detain White, leading to a struggle until NCPD officers and witnesses arrived to assist.

While in custody, White allegedly threatened the life of an NCPD officer, stating he would murder him and his family. He also used a derogatory term and spat on the officer through the patrol vehicle's cage.

White was charged with Threatening the Life of a Public Official and Assault and Battery 1st Degree and was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
