North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) patrol officers arrested a convicted felon Friday evening after reportedly finding a handgun inside his vehicle.
Just before 7 p.m., an officer was patrolling Rivers Avenue when he observed a vehicle that appeared to have illegal window tint. The driver, identified as 49-year-old Theodore Gerard Fyall of Summerville, reportedly looked toward the patrol vehicle before the officer followed him into a nearby neighborhood.
The officer stopped the vehicle on Meeting Street Road and asked Fyall whether there were any firearms inside. Fyall reportedly acknowledged that there was a firearm in the vehicle but said it belonged to his girlfriend.
A check of Fyall’s criminal history revealed prior felony convictions that prohibited him from possessing a firearm. Based on his statement and his criminal history, officers searched the vehicle.
During the search, officers reportedly found a handgun inside a bag in the glovebox, along with a magazine matching the firearm. The magazine contained eight live 9mm rounds.
Fyall was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and a Window Tint violation. He was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
