North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) patrol officers arrested a 26-year-old North Charleston man Wednesday night after he fired a shot during an argument with his mother.
Just before 10 p.m., officers responded to Roper St. Francis Diagnostics & ER at Northwoods on Rivers Avenue following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located and spoke with the man's mother and girlfriend, who were both uninjured.
According to the mother, she and the girlfriend were taking Angelo O'Neal Connor to the hospital because they planned to have him committed due to mental health concerns. The mother told police that an argument between Connor and his girlfriend began in the vehicle and continued after they arrived at the hospital parking lot.
The mother said Connor demanded the car keys, but she refused to give them to him. She told officers that Connor became agitated, got out of the vehicle, approached her while cursing, and grabbed her shirt and purse, which was around her neck. Connor took the keys from her hand before displaying a pistol and firing one round into the air.
The mother said Connor then ran back to the vehicle and sped away.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., officers were notified that Dorchester County deputies had located Connor on Old Trolley Road and taken him into custody.
Connor was charged with Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits. Conner was subsequently transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
NCPD thanks the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with apprehending this suspect.
