Williamsport Police Officers handle calls every day that most people never hear about. Our officers are always working to keep the public safe, help people with countless problems, and expect no recognition for it. They do it because they have a calling to help people. Officer Spotlight will give you a frequent glimpse into calls for service that officers excelled in or went out of their way to help someone in need.
On June 11, 2026, WBP officers responded to the call of a 14-year-old subject who was threatening suicide by knife. Officers responded to the scene, and made contact with the family in need. Officers were told that a 14-year-old grabbed a knife and went out back into the yard. While officers were walking through the house, they came across the juvenile, who was standing at the back door with a knife to their throat. Officers began calmly speaking with the juvenile, who was saying that they wanted to kill themself. Officers were able to get the knife from the juvenile, and ultimately get the juvenile to the hospital for the help that they needed.
The Williamsport Police have extensive training on how to de-escalate situations like this. We are all thankful for this outcome and glad we could get this family the help that they needed.
