According to new data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Lycoming County’s overdose death rate has declined by more than 62% since 2023.
This progress reflects the hard work of families, first responders, treatment providers, and community partners across our region. It’s a meaningful step forward — but the dangers of drug use remain very real.
What the Region Should Know
- Today’s drug supply is unpredictable and often contaminated with fentanyl or other synthetic opioids.
- Even small amounts can cause sudden overdose, especially when mixed with alcohol or other drugs.
- Overdoses can increase the risk of long-term effects, including psychosis and other mental and physical health concerns.
- If you suspect someone is overdosing — call 911 immediately. Quick action saves lives.
