Fatal Crash on State Route 44 Determined to Be Speed‑Related

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fatal Crash on State Route 44 Determined to Be Speed‑Related

Nippenose Township, PA — The Lycoming Regional Police Department has concluded its investigation into the fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on December 18, 2025, on State Route 44 in Nippenose Township. Investigators determined that excessive speed was the primary contributing factor.

Evidence shows the driver of a BMW sedan was traveling approximately 90 miles per hour when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and was struck by a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the BMW died as a result of the collision. The occupants of the pickup truck were transported to area medical facilities.

This tragic incident underscores the critical importance of safe and responsible driving. Motorists are urged to:

·        Obey posted speed limits and adjust speed for road and weather conditions

·        Reduce speed on curves and unfamiliar roadways

·        Avoid aggressive or risky driving behaviors

·        Stay alert and give yourself adequate time and distance to react

The Lycoming Regional Police Department and Lycoming County Coroner’s Office extends its condolences to all those affected and reminds the public that safe driving saves lives.
