We have officially exited winter and entered Spring! That means getting outside and enjoying the beautiful weather.  For many, that means cruising our scenic roadways on their motorcycles!

Keep in mind however, motorcycle riders continue to be over-represented in fatal crashes. In 2019 alone, 5,014 motorcyclists died in crashes all across America. That is why the Quarryville Police Department urge both drivers and motorcyclists to follow these tips and tricks for keeping everyone safe this spring!

Motorcyclists should always:

• Take a safety course and be sure that you are properly licensed.

• Check the weather before heading out.

• Wear protective motorcycle gear.

• Inspect your motorcycle before each ride.

• Obey traffic rules including the use of your signals and driving the speed limit.

• Be observant and watch for road hazards.

• Stay at a safe distance from other vehicles.

Drivers should always:

• Keep a safe following distance from motorcycles.

• Use your turn signals.

• Check for motorcyclists and check your blind spots before changing lanes.

• Do not drive while distracted by phones or other electronic devices.

Everyone should always:

•  STAY FREE OF ALOCHOL AND DRUGS whether riding a motorcycle or operating a vehicle.
