The Pequea Township Police Department recently purchased and put into service three new AED devices. The purchase was made possible after a generous donation from the Anderson family in memory of Leif Anderson who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly late last year. Leif was a loving husband and father and supported the police department and the Pequea Township community. We can not imagine the pain the Anderson family has gone through in losing Leif at only 46 years of age. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and we thank them for their generosity and thinking of the community during their personal tragedy.
The new devices replace our existing AEDs which were 12 years old and well outside there expected lifespan. An AED is a piece of lifesaving equipment used to shock a patients heart during a cardiac arrest emergency. The AEDs purchased are the same currently carried by our local EMS agency and are equipped with pads to be utilized on infants through adults. Each AED is stocked with Narcan to reverse opioid overdoses and a mask to preform rescue breathing. The equipment is carried with officers while on patrol so they can respond in a moments notice directly to a victim and render aid immediately.
