On Sunday, June 28, 2020 at approximately 3:37 p.m. Ephrata Police Officers responded to vehicle crash involving a horse drawn carriage at the intersection of Hahnstown Rd and East Main St (SR322). On arrival officers learned the horse drawn carriage was operated by Marlin Martin, 33 of Terre Hill. Martin was negotiating the intersection when a passing tractor trailer frightened his horse. The horse became uncontrollable and struck another vehicle breaking it’s leg and caused minor damage to the vehicle. Officers and citizens attempted to provide comfort to the horse while keeping it off the road. Officers were in the process of contacting an emergency veterinarian to respond when the horse became uncontrollable. Due to the significant injury to the horse, the inability to control it and ensure the safety the citizens on scene and the motoring public the horse was euthanized. There were no additional injuries reported.
