Ephrata Police have charged Melissa L. Heyman, 36, of Lititz, with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  On September 7, 2022 at 9:51 a.m., a witness advised police that Heyman was inside a convenience store in the 500 block of West Main Street, Ephrata Borough, gambling on skill machines while a toddler slept in her car in the parking lot.  Through witness statements and surveillance video, police determined that Heyman was gambling for 48 minutes while a one-year-old child slept in her car.  Heyman did not have a clear view of her vehicle while in the store.  Heyman is presumed innocent.
