At approximately 0750hrs, Tuesday, November 17, 2020, police were dispatched to Rt. 283 West in Rapho Twp. for a report of vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Shortly after this, police were alerted that the wrong vehicle had been involved in a crash on Rt. 283 West between the Esbenshade Rd. and Spooky Nook Rd. exits in East Hempfield Twp. Upon arrival, officers from both Manheim Borough and East Hempfield Twp. Police Departments determined the crash involved (6) vehicles. Preliminary investigation indicated that the wrong way vehicle, operated by a female from Elizabethtown, was struck by westbound vehicle. The westbound vehicle was traveling in the passing lane, and was forced to swerve into the right westbound lane, striking a vehicle in that lane. (3) more vehicles traveling behind were then caught up in the chain reaction crash. The wrong way driver was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment of a medical condition, which may have contributed to the crash. There were no injuries reported as a result of the crash, which is still under investigation. This area of Rt. 283 West was closed for a period of time as a result of the incident.
