On September 8th, 2024 at approximately 2331hrs Police, Fire, and EMS were called to Route 283 West just West of Route 741 for multiple reports of a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a Tractor Trailer. It was reported that a female passenger of the SUV had been ejected from the vehicle. Upon arrival Officers located a 2025 BMW X5 that had been traveling West on Route 283. The SUV had struck the back of a 53'  Wabash reefer style trailer being pulled by a Freightliner Truck Tractor that was also traveling West. As a result of the crash, the passenger side of the BMW was torn open. The front passenger, a 33-year-old female from Harrisburg, was ejected into the Eastbound lanes of Route 283, sustaining fatal injury.  The operator of the BMW sustained minor injuries. The tractor trailer operator was not injured. East and Westbound Route 283 remained closed for approximately 6hrs for investigation but is now open. The crash remains under investigation by the Lancaster County Crash Investigation Unit. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding the incident is asked to contact Ofc.
