On April 27, 2026, Judge Trucilla handed down a sentence of 53 years to Life to Jamarion Boone for the First Degree Murder of a juvenile, Armoni Cantu, and the Attempted Murder of a second juvenile.
The incident occurred on December 17, 2024, when Boone carried out a drive-by shooting at the corner of 31st and Liberty, targeting a group of teenagers. It is believed that neither victim was the intended target.
According to the investigation, Boone had ridden in a car that drove around the city searching for the group before eventually finding them. Following the shooting, Boone created a rap video in which he taunted the victim's family and bragged about the murder.
Boone's criminal history includes prior convictions for armed robbery and burglary.
"These situations are just so sad at the end of the day. I felt pleased that we got justice for Armoni's family, but that's overwhelmed by just the pain that they're feeling and the pain in the courtroom. A young man lost his life and another young man is dealing with the consequences for it that he earned, but it's still pretty heavy," said Chief Deputy District Attorney Jeremy Lightner.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
