Joel Barnett, 41, was sentenced on July 30, 2025, by the Honorable Judge Daniel J. Brabender Jr. to 25 - 50 years of incarceration for stabbing Michelle Hanson to death in the home they shared. Barnett pled guilty but mentally ill in June of 2025 to Murder of the Third Degree and other related charges on the Friday before a jury trial was set to begin. Jessica Reger, Robert Oliver, and Megan Koma prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
