The 17th Annual Hooked on Books for Kids’ Corporate Spelling Bee brought the community together for a fun and meaningful night in support of literacy.
Hosted by Hooked on Books for Kids, one of Erie County’s longest-standing literacy organizations, the event was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Zem Zem Shrine Club. Since its founding in 1990, the organization has distributed over 500,000 new books to underprivileged children and youth throughout Erie County promoting lifelong learning and a love of reading.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office has proudly participated in this event for approximately ten years. This year, our team—the “Subpoena Coladas”—once again represented the office. While we may not have taken 1st or 2nd place, we were honored to receive the Best Costume Award, bringing creativity and fun to the competition.
Event Winners:
Congratulations to our staff who participated and to all the teams who made the evening enjoyable and impactful. Events like this highlight the importance of community partnerships and supporting initiatives that benefit local youth.
All proceeds from the event support Hooked on Books for Kids, a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to literacy. With no paid staff and minimal overhead, nearly every dollar raised goes directly toward providing new books to children in need helping set the foundation for success in school and beyond.
