ERIE, Pa. (January 23, 2026) Erie County District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz announces today that charges have been filed against two individuals in connection with the emaciated husky brought to the Erie Police Station on January 19, 2026.
Soon after the dog was brought to the Erie Police Department, Officers realized the grave condition of the dog and contacted the ANNA Shelter so that veterinary staff could be called in to provide the dog with immediate veterinary care. The dog, who has since been renamed “Aimee” by the ANNA shelter workers who have been caring for her, was extremely thin, with crust over her eyes and fecal matter in her fur. Aimee appeared to have been outside for some time and had a decreased internal body temperature. Temperatures on January 19, 2026, ranged from a high of 24º to as low as 5º in Erie with snow fall and strong winds, causing wind chills below 0º.
Despite the extraordinary efforts of veterinary professionals, Aimee passed away the morning of January 23, 2026.
Sgt. John Wilson discovered through his investigation that Tori Jackna and Scott Bayle Jr, had bought the dog from a union city breeder. They had not expected the significant time and financial commitment a breed like a husky requires. The pair had kept Aimee in a cage for extensive periods of time and had not provided adequate food.
Ms. Jackna and Mr. Bayle have each been charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Cruelty to Animals, Neglect of an Animal, and various related summary offenses.
Both were arraigned this morning by Magisterial District Judge Alison M. Scarpitti who set bail at $15,000 monetary for each.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:25 on February 12, 2026, before Magisterial District Judge Edward Wilson. This case will be prosecuted by First Assistant Jessica Reger.
As with all criminal cases, charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
