SEWER SYSTEM SMOKE TESTING NOTICE

Vortex is conducting smoke testing of the sewer system in parts of the Township to identify broken pipes, leaks, and other problem areas.

The Police Department has received multiple calls reporting possible smoke or fires related to this testing. Residents may notice smoke coming from sewer vents, manholes, lawns, or other outdoor areas. This is a normal part of the testing process and does not necessarily indicate a fire.

The testing uses a Hurco Technologies Pipeline Smoke Tester and laboratory-tested, non-toxic LiquiSmoke. The equipment forces smoke-filled air through the sewer system, allowing crews to quickly locate leaks.

Important: If testing smoke enters your home or business, it may indicate an open cleanout cap, an unvented drain, or another plumbing defect. These openings could also allow potentially hazardous sewer gases to enter the building. Do not ignore the issue—have your plumbing inspected and any open or defective connections corrected.
