As winter weather continues, the Trainer Borough Police Department reminds residents to take extra precautions to prevent vehicle theft.
Leaving a vehicle running and unattended, commonly referred to as “puffing,” is an open invitation to thieves. Each winter, vehicles are stolen in seconds from driveways, parking lots, and residential streets after being left unlocked with the keys inside.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), a vehicle is stolen approximately every 40 seconds in the United States, with winter months seeing an increase in thefts related to unattended vehicles.
To reduce the risk of vehicle theft:
If you believe a theft is in progress or you become the victim of a vehicle theft, contact the Trainer Borough Police Department immediately.
A few simple precautions can help prevent vehicle thefts this winter. Stay safe and stay warm.
