Stolen Vehicle Incident Leads to Police Search Near Strath Haven High School
On Monday, September 14, 2026, at approximately 9:07 a.m., a Nether Providence Township Police Officer conducted a traffic stop of an Acura in the 700 block of South Providence Road. During the stop, the driver fled in the vehicle, traveling northbound on Providence Road. The vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen. The officer subsequently lost sight of the vehicle.
At approximately 9:41 a.m., a resident of the unit block of Hickory Lane contacted police to report a vehicle parked in their backyard. The vehicle matched the description of the stolen Acura that had fled from the earlier traffic stop. Responding officers confirmed that it was the same vehicle.
Officers from the Nether Providence Township Police Department, assisted by officers from several surrounding jurisdictions, responded to the area and conducted a search for the suspect.
Because the stolen vehicle was recovered in the vicinity of Strath Haven High School, the Nether Providence Township Police Department worked in coordination with school officials to place Strath Haven High School, Strath Haven Middle School, and Wallingford Elementary School in a “Teach in Place” status while officers searched the surrounding area. The measure was implemented out of an abundance of caution while officers worked to determine the suspect’s location. At no time during the incident was there any indication of a threat or risk to the safety of students, school staff, or the general public.
During the investigation, officers reviewed video surveillance that showed the suspect fleeing toward the rear of Strath Haven High School, where the individual was subsequently picked up by another vehicle. Once officers determined that the suspect had left the area, the search was discontinued, and school officials were notified that normal activities could resume.
The incident remains under investigation by the Nether Providence Township Police Department’s Detective Division.
Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to call 911 or the Nether Providence Township Police Department’s Detective Division at 610-892-2875.
