Beckett Guinn, 5, could barely contain his excitement as he bounced at the front door of his West Rose Valley home Thursday morning. Suddenly, Officer Taryn Kelly backed into the driveway, the lights on patrol car No. 4 twinkling.
This was the day Beckett had been waiting for ever since his family won the raffle for a ride to school with a Nether Providence Township police officer—and now, his big moment had finally arrived.
For Beckett, it was like a parade just for him.
At first, Beckett was a bit nervous and even darted back inside the house.
“She is here. She is here,” he blurted to his mom, Allie.
It wasn’t long before Beckett’s curiosity took over his shyness. During the ten-minute ride to his kindergarten program at Swarthmore-Rutledge School, he quizzed Officer Kelly about police work, especially the fancy buttons in the cruiser, which he announced he was not a fan of, drawing a chuckle from Officer Kelly.
By the time they arrived at school, Beckett proudly shared that he wanted to be a police officer when he grew up—just like his “pappy.” Maybe one day, Officer Kelly thought, Beckett will have his own patrol car with lights flashing, ready to make another kid’s day unforgettable.
The raffle was in support of the Strath Haven High School Class of 2026 After Prom.
