As the popularity of electric bicycles and electric scooters continues to grow, the Nether Providence Police Department would like to remind residents and parents about Pennsylvania laws and safety regulations regarding these vehicles.
Electric Bicycles (E-Bikes) Under Pennsylvania law:
• Operators must be at least 16 years old
• E-Bikes may not weigh more than 100 pounds.
• Motors may not exceed 750 watts.
• E-Bikes may not be capable of speeds greater than 20 mph.
Electric Scooters:
Electric scooters are NOT permitted on public roadways, sidewalks, or other public areas in Pennsylvania. They may ONLY be operated on private property with permission from the property owner.
These devices are especially popular among younger riders, and we encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about safe and lawful operation. Our goal is to help keep everyone in our community safe while preventing accidents and injuries.
