Lower Paxton Township Bureau of Police is warning residents about a scam involving criminals impersonating police officers or deputy sheriffs.

Scammers claim you missed jury duty and that an arrest warrant has been issued. They then will demand thousands of dollars in cash or cryptocurrency from you, threatening arrest if you do not pay. In some cases, scammers may even send someone to your home to collect the money.

Remember:
• Police officers and deputy sheriffs will NOT demand cash or cryptocurrency to cancel an arrest warrant.
• Caller ID can be spoofed to make a scam call appear legitimate.
• Never provide cash, Bitcoin, gift cards, or other payments to someone making these demands.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact your local police department using a trusted phone number. Do not call the number provided by the scammer.
