On Tuesday February 18th the Harrisburg Police/Animal Control were dispatched to Wildwood Park for a report of a raccoon that was acting unusual and that had attacked a male, causing minor injuries. Upon arrival officers located the raccoon, which was still exhibiting unusual and aggressive behavior. The raccoon was euthanized and taken to a state lab for testing. The raccoon was confirmed by the lab to be rabid.
Wildwood Park visitors are asked to contact a Dauphin County Park Official, or the Harrisburg Police (717-558-6900), if contact is made with any animals in the park that are acting unusual or unnaturally aggressive. Park visitors are also encouraged to keep all dogs on a leash, and ensure that all rabies vaccinations are current.
