September 28, 2026: District Attorney Seán M. McCormack announced today that investigators have solved the mystery of where a woman missing since 2019 is located. On Friday, September 25, 2026, investigators found the skeletal remains of Kimberly Gsell. Gsell was last seen on September 28-29, 2019, at the Rodeway Inn, in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Her whereabouts have been the subject of investigation for the past seven years. In addition to announcing the discovery of Kim Gsell’s remains, McCormack revealed that police filed first degree murder charges against David Allen Snyder accusing him a strangling Gsell to death on September 29, 2019.
“Despite the reality that we faced, we were hoping throughout this investigation to be able to give her family good news that Kim would be found alive. Unfortunately, the news we delivered to the family confirmed what many of us suspected, Kim has been dead from the moment she disappeared.”
The District Attorney’s Forensic Lab confirmed through its Rapid DNA capabilities the “high probability” that these were the remains were those of Kim Gsell. She was also positively identified through dental records. McCormack commented, "Having the technology that we have here in Cumberland County to be able to almost instantly identify the remains as Kim’s, gave us an investigative advantage that many other counties can’t match. Although we were not able to provide her family with good news, we have at least been able to give them closure and hopefully answers to many of their questions concerning the reason why she suddenly disappeared from their lives seven years ago.”
McCormack praised the efforts of the Middlesex Township Police Department, detectives from the District Attorney’s Criminal Investigation Division, and members of the District Attorney’s Forensic Laboratory in bringing about a conclusion to the investigation into Kim Gsell’s disappearance. “We put together this investigative team earlier this year to press for answers in Kim’s disappearance. We met regularly to plan an investigation that involved many different investigative approaches designed to break open the case. Today’s results are the product of everyone’s hard work.” McCormack specifically singled out the efforts of Middlesex Detective Scott Novak, County Detective Kenneth Tallman, Middlesex Chief of Police Andrew Bassler, and Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Robinson. “This core team worked endless hours to bring about this result. They utilized just about every investigative tool available to them. Their dedication to the task was quite impressive. That we are able to bring forth this news on the seventh anniversary of her disappearance seems very appropriate."
Additionally, McCormack expressed his gratitude to the many others who contributed to this investigation: Chief County Detective John Mays; CID detectives - LT Gordon Goodrow and Detectives Jeremy Matas, Dave Miller, Catherine Long; Middlesex Detective Colton Sweeney; former Middlesex detective Jeffrey Franks; Cumberland County Coroner Charlie Hall; Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Jason Young and his K-9 partner Rebel; District Attorney Forensic analysts Brooke Pannucio and Emmalie Dickey; former assistant district attorneys Daniel Tarvin, Nichole Vito and Evelyn Stoner; the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department; the New Cumberland Police and Fire Departments; the North Middleton Fire Department’s Drone Unit; the Pennsylvania State Police Aviation unit; and former Lower Paxton Township Police detective Todd Witmer.
Special thanks are extended to the team of professors and students from Mercyhurst University’s Forensic Anthropology Department who graciously provided their services to assist us in the recovery of Kim’s remains.
