Cumberland County First Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hair LaRue was presented with the inaugural J. Michael Eakin Outstanding Prosecutor for her exceptional service as a prosecuting attorney in Cumberland County. Courtney joined the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office in 2016 after working in the Lebanon and Adams County District Attorney Offices. In her time in Cumberland County, she has held many positions in the office including Chief Deputy District Attorney in charge of the office’s appeals unit and since 2022 as First Assistant District Attorney. As First Assistant she serves as the office’s top prosecutor under District Attorney Seán McCormack.
The award, given during this year’s annual Victims Rights Rally, is named in honor of former Cumberland County District Attorney J. Michael Eakin. Justice Eakin served as district attorney from 1984 to 1995, as a Superior Court Judge from 1984 until 2001 when he was elected to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He served as a justice of the Supreme Court until his retirement in 2016. Mike Eakin’s motto of “do the right thing for the right reason” appropriately describes the attitude that Courtney brings to her work as a prosecutor. Her outstanding work reflects great credit upon herself, the community, and the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office.
Congratulations Courtney! Well deserved!
