Pennsylvania residents are being asked to be careful when it comes to scam text messages that they may be receiving.
We are reminding you to stay vigilant after a report of a text message scam involving unpaid traffic tickets. According to reports, these messages say things like “records show that as of today, there is an outstanding traffic ticket,” and then ask for payments to be made via a scam URL.
The scam messages also say things about penalties like vehicle suspension, criminal prosecution and negative impacts on credit scores to try and scare people into making payments. It’s important to remember that the Pennsylvania Courts will never place calls or text messages asking for payments to be made by credit cards, gift cards or other electronic fund transfers.
Should you receive a text message from a number or an individual claiming to be involved with or calling from the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts requesting money or payment of fines, fees or court costs, please do not provide any sensitive information or forms of payment of any kind.
No need to contact the police unless you provided your personal information.
