COMMUNITY ALERT: Beware of Scam Phone Calls
Residents are advised to remain vigilant regarding an increase in fraudulent phone calls targeting members of our community.
Scammers often impersonate utility companies, law enforcement agencies, government offices, or other legitimate organizations. These callers may claim that you owe money, have an outstanding bill, or face immediate consequences if payment is not made.
In many cases, the caller will request personal information, banking details, account numbers, or payment through prepaid gift cards, Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or other untraceable methods. These are common signs of a scam.
Protect Yourself:
- Never provide personal, financial, or banking information over the phone to an unsolicited caller.
- Do not make payments using prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, or other untraceable payment methods.
- Be suspicious of callers who demand immediate payment or threaten arrest, service disconnection, or other penalties.
- Hang up immediately if you believe the call is fraudulent.
If you are concerned about a call or are unsure whether it was legitimate, contact your local police department or the organization directly using a verified phone number. Do not rely on the phone number provided by the caller.
Please share this information with family members, friends, and neighbors, especially older adults who are often targeted by these scams.
Stay alert and help protect our community from fraud.
