On Friday, April 19, 2024, the Bloomsburg Police Department, in conjunction with the Northcentral Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), conducted a sobriety checkpoint on State Route 0487 in the town of Bloomsburg. During the hours of 1800 to 2200, approximately 1000 vehicles were contacted within the checkpoint. Of those vehicles, 29 were stopped for various violations. 12 traffic citations were issued along with 11 written warnings. There was a total of 6 people tested for possible DUI. 4 people were arrested for possession of illegal substances, 1 person was arrested for possession of a firearm by a person not permitted to possess, and 2 people were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.

The Bloomsburg Police Department was assisted by officers from Orange Township, Locust Township, Danville Borough, Hemlock Township, and the Columbia County Sheriff's Department.
