Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected beginning this afternoon into tonight. Storms will be capable of producing excessive rainfall rates in excess of 2” per hour. Rainfall amounts of 1-3” are generally expected, with localized amounts around 5-7” or more possible. This could lead to numerous instances of flash flooding of urbanized and poor drainage areas, small streams, and creeks. Significant flash flooding is possible. A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area from 2 PM this afternoon through 6 AM Friday. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening.
If you are put drvining during the storm Never drive through flooded roads or standing water. What looks like a few inches of water can quickly sweep your vehicle away or hide dangerous hazards like washed-out pavement.
Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
It only takes 6 inches of water to lose control of your car and as little as 12 inches to float it.
During heavy rain or storms, avoid low-lying areas and always follow road closure signs. Your safety and the safety of our first responders depends on good decisions behind the wheel.
Stay alert. Stay safe.
