The man who was shot and killed by police in Bristol Township Friday afternoon has been identified as Jose D. Gomez Burgos, age 29 (DOB 2/20/1989), of the 1600 block of Undercliff Ave., Bronx, NY.

Burgos, who was wanted by police in New York as a suspect in a stabbing involving serious but non-fatal injuries, was fatally shot around 12:15 p.m. Friday on Edgeley Road south of Runway Road in Bristol Township.

The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation and review by the Bucks County District Attorney and by county detectives employed by the District Attorney.

Preliminary indications are that Bristol Township Police responded around 12:15 p.m .to a report of a vehicle with New York plates that had been sitting on the side of Edgeley Road for an extended period of time.

According to investigators, Mr. Burgos, who had been seated in the vehicle, confronted police officers with a weapon or weapons. Multiple shots were fired by police, striking Mr. Burgos.

Mr. Burgos was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Whenever deadly force is used by law enforcement officers in Bucks County, it is standard procedure for the District Attorney to investigate to determine whether the use of deadly force was justified. That inquiry is ongoing.
