A confrontation between an armed man and a Buckingham Township police officer on Saturday resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
The violent incident unfolded on Redfield Road when a man crashed a van into a parked car. He then aggressively pursued neighbors with a weapon, all while shouting politically and religiously charged statements.
When the officer arrived, the man went after him. The officer fired a Taser, but it had no effect on the man. As the man continued, the officer fired his weapon. The officer rendered aid, and the man was transported to the hospital, where he remained on Sunday. The appropriate charges are expected to be filed upon his release.
The investigation found that the man was driving recklessly in the 4800 block of Redfield Road around 4 p.m. Saturday and crashed into a parked vehicle.
When residents came outside, he went after them, chasing them into their house while shouting at them. The residents locked themselves in their home.
Police recovered two weapons on the man.
In accordance with protocol, all police-involved shootings in Bucks County are investigated by county detectives and reviewed by the District Attorney.
Criminal charges are allegations subject to proof in court. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
