The Castle Shannon Police Department acknowledges the retirement of Lieutenant David C. Lane.
Lieutenant Lane (Call sign 1717) retires September 12, 2026, after 33 plus years of dedicated and honorable service to the residents of Castle Shannon Borough. His last duty shift was today Tuesday September 8, 2026
Lt Lane was hired in Castle Shannon as a part-time officer in 1992, after working in Hanover Twp, Port Vue Borough and as an Allegheny County Reserve Sheriff. He transitioned to full-time in 1993, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2001 and Lieutenant in 2013.
He has held positions in the agency to include:
Bike Patrol
DARE Officer
Crime Prevention Officer
Civilian Police Academy creator and instructor
Crisis Negotiator
MPOETC Instructor
Field Training Officer
and Accreditation Manager responsible for the agency's first accreditation
Lt Lane is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 245.
He will be remembered by the community as a friendly and familiar face, and he will surely be missed by all.
