Public Safety Announcement: Beware of Fraudulent DMV Notices
The Castle Shannon Police Department is warning residents of a recent scam involving fraudulent DMV notices. Scammers are texting fake notices claiming that individuals have outstanding traffic tickets, in an attempt to deceive them into revealing sensitive personal information or making fraudulent payments.
These notices may appear legitimate, but they are not affiliated with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or any law enforcement agency. If you receive a notice, do not respond or provide any personal information. Delete the text and do NOT click on any links therein.
To protect yourself from this scam:
- Be cautious of unsolicited texts, calls, or emails claiming to be from the DMV or law enforcement.
- Never provide personal information, such as your driver's license number or financial information, in response to an unsolicited notice.
- Verify the authenticity of any notice by contacting the DMV or the Castle Shannon Police Department directly.
- Law enforcement will NOT text you about paying a fine.
Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when dealing with unsolicited notices or requests for personal information. If you have any doubts, don't hesitate to reach out to the authorities for assistance.
Stay safe, and stay informed!
