Incident Summary: Tractor Trailer Crash on Route 88

On January 28, 2025, at 0806am, the Castle Shannon Police Department responded to a crash on Route 88 at Castle Shannon Blvd. A tractor trailer collided with the railroad trestle that carries trains over Route 88. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. However, the truck became stuck against the concrete abutment. As a precautionary measure, Wheeling and Lake Erie RR was notified, and inspectors will conduct a safety assessment of the structure. The tractor trailer was inspected by Motor Carrier Safety Inspectors, and the driver will be cited for multiple violations. The incident caused a 30-minute traffic disruption on Route 88, but the road is now open to traffic in both directions. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
