As we work together to recover from the devastating storm on April 29, 2025, Allegheny County Emergency Services (ACES) and County Emergency Management are collaborating with local governments to assess the damage.
Following the Disaster Declaration issued on April 30, 2025, the County has extended it for an additional 30 days, starting from May 7, 2025.
The initial assessment indicates that the primary impact was wind damage, resulting in widespread power outages across the County and beyond. The Borough has been advocating for neighborhoods affected by prolonged power outages by communicating with ACES and Duquesne Light as much as possible.
It's essential to note that wind damage is typically covered by homeowners' insurance policies, unlike flooding events.
Local emergency management coordinators are responsible for evaluating community damage that exceeds certain thresholds and is not covered by insurance. To qualify for Small Business Administration Loans under a disaster declaration, the County must have at least 25 homes with damage exceeding 40% of the home's value, which is not insured.
Homeowners are advised to report storm damage directly to their insurance providers first.
Although the Borough is not aware of significant property damage meeting the specified criteria, any uninsured damage exceeding the 40% threshold should be reported to local emergency management coordinators, who will forward the information to the County for data collection.
