On October 21, 2025, at approximately 5:22 p.m., officers from the Mount Airy Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a white Cadillac sedan displaying Virginia registration plates that returned to a Ford vehicle. The stop occurred in the Walmart parking lot in Mount Airy.
Upon contact with the two occupants, the driver initially provided officers with a false name but was later identified as Chance Brandon Sine. The passenger was identified as Tisha Lee Cawthon.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit responded and conducted a scan of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) inside of the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of multiple suspected CDS, as well as fraudulent currency and identification cards. A firearm was also recovered from the vehicle with both individuals being prohibited in the State of Maryland to possess a firearm.
Both Sine and Cawthon were found to have extraditable warrants and were taken into custody without incident.
Sine and Cawthon, innocent until proven guilty.
