South Suburban Emergency Response Team

img_1347.jpg

Continuing our intent of informing our residents about the task force entities that the Summit Police Department participates in, we would like to introduce the South Suburban Emergency Response Team. Several Summit police officers are members of this unit, and one serves as an element team leader. This is a highly motivated and experienced lifesaving organization that is available to assist when officers with more specialized training and equipment are needed. This team is an extension of the services that the police department provides and an invaluable resource to both our department and community.

S.S.E.R.T.

The Summit Police Department is a member of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team (SSERT). Summit police officers who have demonstrated tactical soundness, discipline and a special aptitude for special operations may be selected to serve on this multi-jurisdictional team. Officers assigned to the South Suburban Emergency Response Team attend monthly training and are on call for emergency response 24 hours a day, in addition to their normal duty assignments.

The South Suburban Emergency Response Team is a multi-jurisdictional emergency response team currently comprised of thirty-four police departments in the south suburbs of Chicago. The team is responsible for the protection of approximately 600,000 residents in an area that is over 150 square miles.

The response team was designed to provide member agencies with a tactical response to Critical Incidents. Critical Incidents are defined as, but not limited to: Armed/Suicidal Subject's, Barricaded Subject's, Hostage Situations, Sniper Situations, High-Risk Apprehension, High-Risk Warrant Service, Dignitary Protection, Civil Disturbances, Disaster Assistance, Terrorist Incidents and other Special Assignments.
